I have been lucky to procure a four day weekend this next weekend. I'm dying to get out of the city and into some trees/hills. I love the city, but every once in a while, I need to commune with nature, you know?

So. Where are your recommended camping spots that are relatively secluded, within a 3-4 hour drive from our fair city, and I would have reasonable luck finding a spot on a Thursday morning/afternoon for the weekend? Rustic spots are fine too... I don't need electricity/ice cream stands/showers or even flush toilets to be happy. I've looked online at the state parks and they appear to be booked out to December, with dire warnings of the unlikeliness of finding a spot if one attempted to "walk-in" and claim a non-reserved spot. Would you say that this is accurate?
